I just put on a thick layer of black eyeliner. Why? Because that’s my beauty equivalent of donning a mourning veil. Something as big as the departure of Shu Uemura from U.S. markets deserves its own funeral. Yesterday, L’Oréal announced that Shu Uemura will be removed from US retail stores and will only be available to American purchasers online at the brand’s website here. Carol Hamilton, president of L’Oréal USA’s Luxury Division explained: “We love the brand, but it is a very small part of our portfolio.” At no surprise, 80 percent of Shu Uemura’s business is in Asia. L’Oréal will instead be directing its efforts to its other luxury brands. While it might be a smart business choice to make, beauty junkies and fans of the immensely popular Shu Uemura eyelash curler are bound to create an uproar. Me? I’m heading to the mall this weekend to stock up while I still can. [via StyleList]
